Benefits
The Recipe's Story
A Tale of love and sacrifice

This Hokkien dish is cooked for my Ah Gong 阿公(paternal grandfather whom I have never met). I have to thank for him the sacrifices he made for our family.

This story was told to me by my father. My Ah Kong had at least 9 mouths to feed. One reunion dinner he had to borrow money from friends to put food on the table. Ah Kong did not join the family for reunion dinner as he could not repay the loan. He had to out of sight when the lender came to demand repayment. I cannot imagine what it was like to be hungry during the festive period.

Compare then and now. Food scarcity of our forefathers and the colossal waste of food today.

Trash thought of the day - It is estimated that many households waste 1/3 of their food.
